That’s FOUR TERABYTES : 4000 Gigabytes. Western Digital’s new MyBook Studio II now comes in capacities of up to 4TB. It is backed up with 5 years of warranty and is sure to cost a pretty penny.

That’s probably enough for years of photos, music and video. In WD’s own words, the 4TB Drive, which also comes with eSATA and Firewire 800 connections for faster connectivity than the ubiquitous USB 2.0, “holds up to 1,000,000 MP3s or 1,540 hours of DVD Quality Video OR 800,000 Digital Photos”. Considering a typical MP3 is around 4 minutes long, a MILLION of them plays for 4,000,000 minutes or seven and a half YEARS. 1540 hours of DVD quality Videos will put you off your work schedule by 64 days. That’s a LOT of storage there.

Now, I believe that is pretty much enough for anyone out there but Bill Gates was famously quoted as saying “640k ought to be enough for anybody”. That number is directed at RAM but here we are today where gigabytes of ram is the norm for anyone with a recent computer.

Bring on the World’s First Petabyte Drive then! That’s probably uh enough for almost everything.
