This is KOBIAN, a weird little robot designed to express a full range of human emotions through its face and posture. As if its face is not creepy enough, its makers took the courtesy to cover its hands with a soft material so that it feels like a human hand.
It is designed to eventually be able to help out elderly and lonely people by providing emotional support in addition to whatever a robot helper is supposed to do(clean, wash the dishes, etc). More importantly, this creation is a vital step in creating Terminators such as Marcus from the latest movie. And now, robots are capable of displaying more facial emotions than the original T-800 and its actor.
