Asus has added yet another laptop to its Republic of Gamers brand of gaming laptops. The G60, named for its 16 inch screen, will bridge the gap between the G50 and G70 by offering full HD at a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which is lacking in the G50. It has the following features:
- Core 2 Quad processor
- 4GB DDR3 RAM
- 1 TB HDD
- Blue-ray drive
- GeForce GTX 260M GPU
- Backlit keyboard with numpad
- and taking a page from MSI, a ‘turbo’ button for overclocking
And the cost for all that hardware is a not-so-modest price of £1,500.
Gaming laptops have been around for quite some time now but one must wonder why anyone would need one. Mobility? Gaming laptops are not built with weight as its top list of priorties, and lugging one around feels like carrying a slightly less heavy field pack on a 24-click route march. And like all laptops, upgrading is only limited to RAM or if you’re lucky, HDD. They are also more expensive than desktops with the same specs. So why not get a desktop?
I can think of only 1 reason: LAN parties. After all, a laptop is definitely more portable than a desktop, no matter how heavy it is. So unless you go to LAN parties often, stick to a desktop PC for gaming.
