Square Enix has been taking a page from Kojima Productions recently and doing their own teaser page on their next “big” game.

The teaser page is pretty basic with us pencil-sketched art that gradually reveals more and more as time goes by. Because reproducing the timeline has been done in a million sites already, I will be original and speculate on what this game actually is. Lets see what we have to work with, A dragon, A boy with a sword, a landscape (which tells us a grand total of nothing), the number “4″ and the 8/16-bit-ish music on the site.

My guess is either the 4th handheld Sa.Ga game (known as Final Fantasy Legends Series in the English-speaking world) or a Project Ivalice game, with the former more likely. What? You don’t know what is a Sa.Ga* game? Have you heard of the SAGA series*? Below are two of the more recent games in the series…

If its a SA.GA game, then the “4″ motif makes sense as it will be the 4th Sa.Ga game made…and the 4th game of the SAGA series to be on an handheld. This also explains the 8/16-bit-ish music that seems vaguely familiar (this writer played all 3 on the Gameboy back in the time when afros are still in fashion). Further cementing this is the medieval vibe, as most of the SAGA games are based on medieval European worlds (save Saga Frontier 1 and SA.GA 3)

Furthermore, this year coincides with the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the Sa.Ga series. Even though  the Saga series is not so well received in the West, it has a considerable fanbase in Japan and a celebration of such an milestone is to be expected.

*SAGA referes to the series franchise as a whole. Sa.Ga refers to the handheld games collectively known as the Final Fantasy Legends series in the West.

Edit: Dammit, Kotaku edited their post and speculated that it might be a Sa.Ga game. I hope noone thinks I ripped them off.
