The iPhone may be the hottest selling smartphone on the market right now, but that doesn’t mean that Apple can do anything it wants. Of course it is to be expected that people would be angry once news spread of the GV app rejection by the app store (rumored due to pressure by AT&T). However, some people were angry enough to dump their iPhones and get another smartphone (though you can also jailbreak it and then get GV on your iPhone). Techcrunch founder and editor Michael Arrington is just one of them.

While the rejection doesn’t affect us Singaporeans, I applaud Arrington for his decision to spit in the face of the Apple Empire. He showed Apple that not all of their customers are fanboys who had their realities permanently distorted. And just to stick the blade a little deeper, he is switching to a Palm Pre too.

Also, the FCC, as if in response to this, has decided to investigate this incident, which should teach Apple some humility.

About Google Voice:

A service which links all of your numbers (home phone, office phone, mobile phone etc…) into one single phone number. Calls can be routed to any of your phones according to the time of the day, the identity of the caller and can also be routed simultaneously to more than one phone. SMS and Voicemails are also included which can be checked online via a G-mail like interface.

Writer’s note: I still like my iPhone though and wouldn’t give it up even if held at gunpoint…probably.
